As Usenet grew, the demands placed on A News became overwhelming and a new software program was required to maintain the Usenet.  Dr. Horton, then a Cal-Berkely graduate student, along with Matt Glickman, designed "B News" to overcome the limitations of "A News".  Horton also utilized Berkeley's DARPA connection created a link from ARPAnet to Usenet.

Dr. Horton earned her B.S. at the University of Southern California and later accomplished her PhD in Computer Science from the University of California at Berkeley in 1981.  Dr. Horton worked with AT&T Bell Labs/Lucent Technologies from 1987 to 2002 and has held positions at Avaya and Bank One.  Presently, Dr. Horton is Vice President, Distributed Computing Engineer Lead, at JPMorganChase, where she has worked since 2004. 

Dr. Horton is an active diversity advocate, leader, and researcher and has been recognized for her contributions in creating equality in the workplace for transgender, bisexual, lesbian, and gay individuals.  She was the Columbus Chapter Vice President of the National Organization for Women from 1999-2001 and has acted as Treasurer for the organization since 2001.  Dr. Horton is a Chair for the Transgender at Work project and is a Board Member of the national organization, It's Time, America!
